Flying pig copper weathervane on a 90 degree ridge tile finial
- Description
Perched proudly atop a double arched, right angle ridge tile, behold the charm of this resplendent weathervane finial featuring a delightful flying pig crafted from gleaming polished copper. Beyond its whimsical appeal, this weathervane serves a dual purpose, seamlessly blending as a decorative accent while also functioning as a wind direction indicator.
Standing at an impressive height of 31.5 inches (80cm), with a substantial base measuring 12 inches (296mm) in length and 9 inches (225mm) in width, this flying pig weathervane commands attention. Rather than opting for a conventional bracket to secure the weathervane, an innovative approach takes precedence, considering the imperative to safeguard the roof against water ingress.
Traditional concerns about roof integrity often deter installers from piercing or bracketing. However, this flying pig weathervane offers an alternative solution by ingeniously utilising the ridge tile fitting, seamlessly blending with the standard terracotta hue. The ridge tile fitting can be securely mortared into the roof, presenting a distinctive installation option. Accompanied by a versatile mechanical fix fitting, an adjustable metal strap can be effortlessly customised to the desired length and secured via the predrilled holes for robust attachment using screws, nails, or other fasteners. Once the metal strap is securely in place, it discreetly disappears, embedded within the mortar bed for the ridge base install.
These flying pig ridge weathervanes transcend mere functionality, showcasing remarkable adaptability suitable for diverse roofs, including gable ends, hip ends, houses, cottages, sheds, workshops, and even garden installations. Elevate your outdoor space with this enchanting weathervane, a fusion of utility and aesthetics, bringing a touch of whimsy to rooftops and garden landscapes alike.
- Brackets & Fixings
This weathervane finial can insalled in the following ways:
Mortar bedding:
The traditional installation method is to bed the finial onto the roof using mortar, in the same way as ridge tiles are fitted. For larger or heavier finials, additional mechanical fixing can be used for extra stability.
Mechanical strap fixing with mortar:
Many finials are supplied with a concealed galvanised metal fixing strap secured beneath the ridge base. The adjustable strap can be cut to length and fixed to the roof structure using screws, nails or mortar. Once installed, the strap is hidden beneath the mortar bedding, leaving a clean and seamless finish.
Dry fixing systems:
Some roofs use dry fix systems that secure ridge tiles and finials without mortar. These systems typically use brackets or mechanical fixings. If you are using a dry ridge system, please contact us to confirm whether your chosen finial can be adapted for compatibility.
